West Brom are expected to announce the signing of Scunthorpe's Conor Townsend after agreeing a deal with the League One club for the left-back.

That's the latest according to Iron Bru, a website dedicated to the Glanford Park side.

They have also added that as well as agreeing a fee with the Iron, Albion have sorted personal terms with the player, meaning the move should be finalised over the weekend.

The 25-year old has impressed for Scunthorpe since joining two years ago and had been attracting interest from several Championship sides including Ipswich and Townsend's former club Hull City.

However, the prospect of linking up with Darren Moore's recently relegated squad will appeal to the player as the Baggies look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Despite coming through the ranks at Hull, Townsend didn't make a senior league appearance with the Tigers and should this move go through it will be the highest level he has played at so far in his career.

The Verdict

Townsend deerves this move after a solid few years in the lower leagues and the fact other Championship sides were interested show that he is a good player.

Whether he will play much at The Hawthorns is debatable, particularly if Kieran Gibbs stays, but either way it's a great move for the player.

Albion will hope to confirm this over the weekend so he can work with the squad ahead of the opener against Bolton next week.
