West Bromwich Albion are set to join Leeds United in the race for Rangers defender Connor Goldson, according to reports from Football Insider.

The 27-year-old - who arrived at Ibrox from Brighton for a reported fee of £3m last summer - has been a rock for Steven Gerrard's side since his arrival in Glasgow, and he has made a total of 80 appearances for the club.

This season, the defender has made 36 appearances in all competitions, helping the Gers boast the best defensive record in the SPFL and climb to within two points of league leaders Celtic with a game in hand.

Goldson signed a four-year deal upon his arrival at Ibrox, so with his contract expiring in 2022, the Gers have no reason to sell one of their most important players at all.

But the centre-half, who has recently been linked with moves to Leeds and Fulham, has now emerged as a reported target for Championship leaders West Brom.

Can you get 11 out of 11 on this West Brom quiz?

The Baggies have endured a mini blip of late, winning only one of their last seven matches and conceding 31 goals in the Championship - more than anyone else in the top seven.

Ahmed Hegazi and Kyle Bartley have both recently returned to the side after a spell on the sidelines with injury, but both were unable to prevent the Baggies from losing 1-0 to Stoke on Monday night.

West Brom remain top of the Championship, one point clear of Leeds with 18 games left to play.

The Verdict

I think that Goldson could be a fantastic signing for West Brom to be honest.

He has played a massive part in helping Rangers become a solid, well-organised unit under Gerrard, and has been a real leader for the Gers this term.

It would be a real coup to lure him to The Hawthorns, not only because of his importance to Rangers, but to beat two other automatic promotion rivals to his signature.

I think that he would be a massive upgrade on Hegazi and Bartley, to be honest.
