After finding themselves 2-0 down against Cheltenham Town after the first leg, Morton’s brace in the second leg helped inspire a fantastic comeback as they progressed to the final after winning 3-2 on aggregate.

On Monday night, Northampton won promotion back to League One after a 4-0 victory over Exeter City at Wembley, with Morton adding to his tally for the Cobblers.

The young forward scored eight goals in 12 appearances during his loan spell at Northampton, and he will now return to Albion a much better player

With Morton’s contract running out in 2021, The Athletic claim that Albion are keen to open talks with Morton over a new contract at the Hawthorns.

The report claims that talks were scheduled for after Morton’s play-off final win with Northampton on Monday, and it is understood that he would be keen to sign a new deal before heading out on loan again next season.

The Verdict

This should be a no-brainer for West Brom.

Morton is clearly a very talented, young forward who has been excellent in League Two this term. His goalscoring record has been magnificent for Northampton this season.

You only have to look at what’s happening with Nathan Ferguson, in that their talented youngster is joining Crystal Palace for free, to know that West Brom have to get a deal sorted for Morton as soon as possible, before potentially losing him for nothing.
