Sky Bet Championship side West Bromwich Albion are looking to beat Celtic in the race to sign highly-rated winger Alberth Elis, according to reports from Football Insider.

The Honduran attacker, who can play either out wide, behind the striker or up front, has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in the MLS, after reaching double figures in two successive seasons for Houston Dynamo.

The 22-year-old has scored 21 goals and produced 14 assists in 56 games for the American side, and was also named in the MLS All-Star side that faced Italian giants Juventus in the summer.

The Baggies have reportedly made an approach to sign the attacker, who is valued by Dynamo at a price of around £5million, but the West Midlands side will have to face strong competition from Scottish champions Celtic as well as Turkish club Fenerbache in the race to pursue Elis' signature.

Darren Moore's men are in the hunt for another exciting attacking option following the departure of Harvey Barnes - the Leicester City playmaker recently returned to the King Power Stadium having scored nine goals and produced six assists for Albion, who are currently the top scorers in the Championship with 57 goals to their name.

They currently sit third in the Sky Bet Championship table, three points off the automatic promotion places after a 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers on Monday night.

The Verdict

Elis looks to be a real talent on paper, and it would be a real coup to get him to come to The Hawthorns.

He has contributed to plenty of goals in the MLS, and would definitely add more goals to what is already a magnificent Baggies attack.

£5million looks to be a bargain for such a talent.
