West Bromwich Albion are on the brink of signing Karlan Grant from Huddersfield Town with Football Insider reporting a breakthrough in talks over a fee for the transfer of the striker.

The forward has been the subject of intense speculation for much of the transfer window and that has led him to be left out as Huddersfield have started the season.

Indeed, West Brom have been itching to get him signed for much of this market and it looks as though there has now been a breakthrough for the player.

According to the report, a loan-to-buy deal will be put into place with the Baggies obliged to pay £14m at the end of this season to sign him permanently - though the report says that could even rise to £16m.

Either way, it looks as though they are close to getting Grant with the transfer window shutting at 5pm on Friday.

The Verdict

Grant is a good player and Albion want to sign a striker so you can see why they are pursuing him so persistently.

Huddersfield obviously don't want him to go on the cheap, and it looks as though this deal might see them get a decent fee for him in the long run.

Nothing is guaranteed, of course, but this report suggests that a move is getting close.
