West Bromwich Albion have rejected Watford's initial bid of £1m for Ben Foster, according to The Daily Mail.

Foster is a major target for Watford this summer as they aim to improve their goalkeeper options and they are considering the man who previously spent two loan spells at Vicarage Road.

The 35-year-old is trying to force a move away from West Brom and has refused to fly out to Portugal for their pre-season training camp - alongside Craig Dawson - which has landed both players in trouble.

Watford are hoping to take advantage of this situation and sign Foster, who helped them win promotion in the 2005/06 season.

The Hornets have made a bid of £1m, which was unsurprisingly rebuffed by the Baggies.

Manchester City are also thought to be in the race for the former Manchester United stopper but Watford have firmed up their interest with a concrete bid.

However, West Brom have brushed this off and they are not willing to lose him for a cheap price.

The Verdict

Foster is approaching the end of his career and probably sees this as his last chance to see out his playing days at the top level.

All the rhetoric about being settled with his family and being invested in Darren Moore's project appears to be misplaced and West Brom fans will be understandably disappointed that he has had a change of heart.

If West Brom do lose Foster - having already released Myhill - they will need to bring in a new goalkeeper as a priority this summer.
