West Brom have rejected a bid worth up to £16m from Burnley for forward Jay Rodriguez as the Clarets try and bring their former player back to Turf Moor.

Sean Dyche had already made an offer for the player earlier in the window, with the Premier League side offering £25m for Rodriguez and Baggies defender Craig Dawson.

That was dismissed by Albion and whilst they remained linked with the players, Burnley had not returned with a bid until now.

The Telegraph have revealed that the Lancashire side resumed talks for the 29-year old and lodged an offer of around £16m for the player.

Whilst that has been rejected, the report does state that Burnley are weighing up whether to go back in with another offer ahead of the deadline, which is in one weeks time.

It has been a frustrating summer for Dyche, who has yet to bring in a major signing despite the club embarking on their first European campaign in 50 years.

The Verdict

You have to credit West Brom for holding firm on their valuation of the player, even though Rodriguez is sure to want a move.

How long they can do so remains to be seen, as Burnley may not meet their valuation which could leave them with an unhappy player on their hands.

You wouldn't be surprised to see this drag on until the deadline, so Albion need to have replacements lined up if that's the case.
