West Brom and Burnley have failed to reach an agreement over a potential transfer for Albion forward Jay Rodriguez.

The 28-year old, who came through the ranks at Turf Moor, wants to move back to his former club and was the subject of a bid from the Premier League side.

The Lancashire club offered £25m for both Rodriguez and teammate Craig Dawson but that was turned down by West Brom, who are holding out for more money.

According to Sky Sports, they want around £18m for Rodriguez on his own but Burnley are not prepared to pay that for the player meaning talks have stalled.

However, it remains to be seen whether Rodriguez will try and force the issue as he looks to join up with the club close to his heart, which may see Albion accepting a lower bid.

Burnley are ready to embark on a Europa League campaign after a memorable season last time out, with Sean Dyche keen to bolster his squad for the extra games that they will face.

The Verdict

Even in today's market £18m for Jay Rodriguez seems steep and you can understand why Burnley are reluctant to pay that, but Albion are well within their rights to demand big money.

Given the player's desire to move it remains to be seen what Rodriguez does because that could influence what happens.

Either way, it seems this could drag on throughout the summer with the clubs unable to agree a fee at the moment.
