West Brom are closing in on the signing of Sunderland left-back Bryan Oviedo, as Darren Moore looks to strengthen his squad before the deadline.

The Costa Rica international was a part of the Black Cats squad that suffered back-to-back relegations in the past few years but he remained with the club in League One.

However, the former Everton man has lost his place in the past few weeks, with Reece James preferred by manager Jack Ross and youngster Denver Hume is another option.

Therefore, the Wearside outfit were prepared to shift Oviedo, who is also a high earner at the Stadium of Light.

And, Dean Jones, who works for Bleacher Report, revealed that the 28-year-old is set for a move to The Hawthorns before the 11pm deadline tonight.

The Baggies have bee very busy as they look to bring in the numbers to help their promotion push, with other additions also expected between now and the deadline.

Providing the deal goes through as expected, Oviedo could be involved against Middlesbrough this weekend.

The Verdict

This would be a very strange signing for Albion as they already have two left-backs at the club in Conor Townsend and Kieran Gibbs, with the former Arsenal man arguably the best in the league in that role.

So, whilst Townsend may leave on loan now, surely they could've just kept him as backup instead of bringing in Oviedo who will be on bigger wages.

But, he can do a job, it's just that they didn't really need him.
