The Baggies have a £6 million move lined up for Brentford midfielder Ryan Woods, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Woods was heavily involved in Brentford's league campaign with 39 appearances and a total of 3186 minutes, which meant he played the fourth highest amount of anyone in the team.

He played as part of a two-man midfield in front of the defence in the 4-2-3-1 shape that the Bees utilised.

The 24-year-old was partnered with a number of players including Kamohelo Mokotjo and Josh McEachran, with Woods being the constant as he helped recycle possession and break up opposition attacks.

His comfort on the ball and range of passing was key in deep positions because it ensured that Brentford were able to progress up the pitch without resorting to direct play.

The Verdict

Woods would be an excellent way to upgrade an ageing midfield because he would provide a long-term option for the team, while also possessing experience at this level which could be pivotal in helping them get promoted.

Brentford appear willing to sell him at the right price as well, which should eliminate the chance of a transfer saga.

His versatility means that he can adapt to West Brom's style depending on how Darren Moore sets them up because he is just as comfortable breaking up attacks as starting them, although it would be a shame if the Baggies didn't adopt a possession based approach to get the best out of him, because he would be effective at linking the attackers with the rest of the team.
