West Brom are hoping to sign Sheffield United's Callum Robinson before Friday's transfer deadline as Slaven Bilic looks to strengthen his squad.

The Albion boss has made it clear that he wants a new option up top before the window shuts and the Baggies have been linked with a host of names in the past few weeks.

However, they don't appear to have made much progress and Sun reporter Alan Nixon has revealed this afternoon that Robinson is now a target.

The Ireland international only moved to the Blades in the summer after starring for Preston in the Championship but he has found life tough in the top-flight, scoring just once in 16 league appearances.

Therefore, Chris Wilder may be prepared to sanction a deal this month, particularly with his side well-stocked for options in the final third.

With Billy Sharp, Lys Mousset and Oli McBurnie seemingly ahead of Robinson in the pecking order, the 24-year-old has started just one Premier League fixture since October.

He scored ten goals in 27 games for Preston at this level in the previous campaign.

The verdict

This would be surprising in the sense that Robinson only arrived at Bramall Lane in the summer but it could be a move that benefits all parties as the forward is struggling right now.

But, he is proven at this level and would add qualities that Albion are lacking right now with his direct style, good movement and pace in behind.

That makes him ideally suited to the way that Bilic wants to play and he could thrive with the likes of Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira creating chances for him.

So, this could be one to watch in the coming days and if Albion get it over the line it will seriously improve their squad for the run-in.
