West Bromwich Albion are ready to submit a new contract offer to Ben Foster, according to a report by the print edition of The Sun on Sunday via HITC Sport.

Watford have been strongly linked with a move for Foster and saw a £1m bid rejected.

Foster and want-away defender Craig Dawson are due to be disciplined by the club for refusing to join the club's pre-season training camp in Portugal in order to force their respective exits.

Both players were standout performers for the Baggies last year despite their relegation to the Championship.

But it now appears that West Brom could try to keep the 35-year-old veteran stopper at the club despite anticipating more bids from Watford.

However, other reports suggest that West Brom will make a move for £5m-rated Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone if Foster departs, after the 25-year-old impressed during his year-and-a-half loan stint at Aston Villa.

The Verdict

If West Brom could sell Foster and then sign Johnstone for £5m, this would represent fantastic business by the Baggies.

Foster only has one or two years left in him and in Johnstone, they have a young and proven goalkeeper.

The former England under-21 international was one of the best keepers in the Championship last term and he would be an excellent capture and a preferable option to extending Foster's deal - especially if he wants to leave.
