West Bromwich Albion are looking to bolster their attacking units with Watford striker Andre Gray, according to Football Insider.

The 30-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Vicarage Road and the Hornets seem interested to discuss a move away.

Valerien Ismael's men kicked off their 2021/22 Championship campaign with a 2-2 draw away to Bournemouth on Friday night, with the out-of-favour Kenneth Zohore and seemingly more of a wide forward Karlan Grant the only alternatives to Callum Robinson through the middle. It is not a surprise to see the Frenchman on the lookout for another goalscorer.

Gray struggled to get going as the Hornets sealed automatic promotion straight back to the Premier League last term, scoring five goals in 31 appearances. Xisco Munoz's men will be looking to recoup some of the £18.36million (Transfermarkt) they spent to acquire his services from Burnley in 2017.

The Baggies host dark horses Luton Town this weekend, with Ismael looking for his first competitive victory at the club. Though Gray does not guarantee goals at Championship level, as last season proved, he is vastly experienced at the top end of the second tier from his time with Brentford and Burnley.

The striker's guile and intelligence would compliment the running of Grant in particular. Offering a different skillset to first choice frontman Robinson. Gray is not afraid to use the dark arts of leading the line and could stand out with many clubs at the level prioritising youth over experience this summer.

The Verdict

If an affordable fee or loan deal can be reached, the Baggies will sign an excellent head for the dressing room. When fully motivated Gray is a menacing prospect at second tier level and with the likes of Grady Diangana and Alex Mowatt wreaking havoc from deeper areas, he should receive the service to make up for last season in terms of his goal return.

Automatic promotion is very much the aim for West Brom and Gray's signature would be a statement of intent, a signal to the rest of the league that Ismael's men are a force to be reckoned with.
