West Brom's promising young forward Louie Barry could spark a tug of war between England and Ireland after an excellent display for Ireland U16s this week.

The Baggies prospect netted twice as Ireland beat Bulgaria 4-2, but journalist Aidan Fitzmaurice has tweeted that England are looking to poach the outstanding prospect.

The young striker has previously represented England too, drawing plaudits back in May when he netted ten goals in just five matches for the England U15 side.

He netted for the Three Lions once against Japan, twice against the United Arab Emirates, four times when facing the Czech Republic, once against Italy, and finally twice against Austria at the tender age of 14. That brought his name to the attention of the West Brom fan base.

It also drew praise from the Baggies academy manager Mark Harrison, who said at the time: "We've got a young player out in Italy at the moment, Louie Barry, playing for England's under-15 side. He's just had an outstanding tournament where he's scored ten goals in five games."

The Verdict

Barry certainly seems to be catching the eye with his goal scoring prowess, but for the journalist to claim England are trying to poach him is wide of the mark: he's already got plenty of England experience.

West Brom will be keen to ensure they hang on to him though, they wouldn't want another repeat of the Izzy Brown scenario.
