West Bromwich Albion are expected to lodge a £4m bid to sign Romaine Sawyers from Brentford this summer.

According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, West Brom are planning to raid the London club, with Ryan Wood and Sawyers on their radar this summer.

Sawyers, a former academy graduate at the Hawthorns, is set to be the subject of a £4m bid from West Brom, with Darren Moore keen to bring Sawyers back to the club.

The 26-year-old didn’t make a senior appearances for West Brom, spending time with Shrewsbury Tow, Port Vale and Walsall on a temporary basis.

After joining the latter on a permanent deal and making over 100 appearances, Sawyers linked up with Brentford in the summer of 2016, where he has featured regularly in the Sky Bet Championship.

Sawyers has made 85 appearances in two years at Championship level, returning six goals for Dean Smith’s side.

Four of those goals came last year, with Sawyers helping Brentford to ninth in the Championship table.

Sawyers and Woods are not the only players on West Brom’s radar, with the Baggies working hard on a deal for Bobby Reid ahead of their return to the Championship.

The Verdict

Sawyers is a decent Championship player, who can cover a number of positions.

£4m might seem like a steep transfer-fee, but Brentford will not let the 26-year-old leave on the cheap this summer, particularly to a direct rival.

However, with West Brom heading back to the Championship with parachute payments, £4m isn’t going to break the bank.
