West Bromwich Albion are close to agreeing a deal to sign Kyle Bartley from Swansea City, according to Sky Sports News.

Bartley is on the brink of joining West Brom for a £4m transfer fee.

The 27-year-old was also a target for Leeds United, where he spent a successful loan period during the 2016/17 season as they finished just shy of the play-offs.

But the Baggies appear to have won the race for Bartley after Leeds dropped their interest in recent weeks.

The former Arsenal academy product played just 10 times for Swansea last season in an injury-blighted campaign but is now ready to leave the South Wales club on a permanent basis.

Bartley is likely to become Darren Moore's second summer signing after West Brom brought in Sam Johnstone from Manchester United on a permanent deal.

The Verdict

This is a huge blow for Leeds as Bartley was instrumental to their success in 2016/17, clearly loves the club and was available for a bargain fee in today's market.

Even though he might not necessarily fit Marcelo Bielsa's centre-back profile, Bartley is a top defender at this level and the truth is that Leeds are very short in that department.

He will be an asset for West Brom, especially if they lose one or both of Craig Dawson and Ahmed Hegazi.

The Baggies are completing some impressive summer business after snapping up Johnstone.
