West Bromwich Albion will look to have turned a corner after getting back to winning ways in emphatic style last time out, hammering promotion rivals Leeds United 4-1 at The Hawthorns.

Darren Moore’s men had gone into the encounter four games without a win, so the eventual result importantly restored confidence and belief after some alarming performances in recent weeks.

Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the performance however, was despite accruing a rate of just 28% possession, they still managed to absolutely batter Leeds scoring four times, which shows just how dangerous the Baggies are going forward.

It's going backwards where Albion struggle though - shipping too many sloppy goals and failing to field a consistent back-three has had a detrimental impact on the Baggies' form this season, as they slipped from 1st to 5th in the Championship table.

They may have a "you score 3 we'll score 4" attitude, but that surely cannot be sustainable for the long-term, and having conceded a staggering 25 goals in the league this season, defensive reinforcements are needed in January.

Their back-three/wing-back system has been questionable to say the least, and Tyrone Mears has been far from impressive at right wing-back this season.

One player who would add to the Baggies' quality going forward and backward is Rangers captain James Tavernier, whom Albion have been linked with several times.

The 27-year-old has been one of the standout performers in Steven Gerrard’s side, providing an outlet in both attack and defence on the right-hand side of the pitch.

As a very capable tackler, with excellent pace, tactical awareness, and wicked distribution, it’ll be difficult to tempt Tavernier away from Ibrox.

But Baggies, who have had numerous bids turned down for Tavernier in the past, still remain keen on landing the defender, who would fit into the wing-back position with ease at The Hawthorns.

Albion need to get this deal done, whatever the cost.
