West Brom's Sam Field is gathering interest from several clubs in the EFL, according to journalist Sam Barclay.

The 21-year-old could leave on loan as he is not central to Slaven Bilic's first-team plans - with Charlton, Wigan and Shrewsbury all interested.

Barclay reports that The Baggies have rejected offers from Wigan and Barnsley who had hoped to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis, and therefore it seems like a loan deal is the only viable option for the interested parties.

Field has been on the scene at the Hawthorns for a few years now, featuring in ten Premier League games the year West Brom were relegated, and has made a total of 40 professional appearances for the club, including 18 games last season.

However, the academy product faces competition from players such as Jake Livermore, Romaine Sawyers and Rekeem Harper, and with Bilic keen to bring in more faces his game time could be quite limited.

As a result, a loan deal should suit both parties, so it could just be a question of which club he joins with the transfer deadline fast approaching.

The Verdict

Bilic has already shown faith in West Brom youngsters like Kyle Edwards and Nathan Ferguson, so in that sense it is somewhat surprising that Field didn't even feature on the bench in Saturday's match against Nottingham Forest.

That could mean that Bilic doesn't think he is ready for a role in a squad aiming for promotion, and first needs experience of playing regularly, or an opportunity to move away from the club to develop his mentality, which can be just as important as footballing ability.

Going on loan to another Championship side would be a great opportunity for Field to showcase what he can do, and if he takes the opportunity in his stride and impresses then he could earn himself a place in Bilic's first-team when he returns.
