West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone insists Saturday’s win over Middlesbrough won’t count for much if they can’t back it up with another three points at home to Barnsley this evening.
Albion showed a lot of grit and determination to come through a tough afternoon on Teesside, with the former Villa stopper required to make some good saves before Hal Robson-Kanu’s late winner.
That meant that Slaven Bilic’s side are outright leaders in the Championship ahead of two winnable home games against newly-promoted duo Barnsley and Charlton.
And, Johnstone outlined how important it is that the team are ruthless when speaking to the Express & Star.
“We have to stay switched on so we don’t make games difficult for ourselves. It’s alright winning at Middlesbrough but we have to go and win again tonight. To be a good team, you have to do it consistently.”
The Baggies will start as strong favourites against the Tykes, who are without a manager, this evening. The Yorkshire outfit have failed to win on the road this season and have scored just one goal in five away games.
Will West Brom pick up another three points against Barnsley?
This mentality from Johnstone is exactly what’s needed at West Brom if they are to win promotion this evening.
Of course, the result at Boro was a significant one but it’s been and gone now, with the focus switching to the next game as soon as the final whistle went.
It’s now about putting everything into beating Barnsley and you would have to say that if Albion play near their best then this should be a pretty routine home win but they need to apply themselves properly.
