West Bromwich Albion manager Darren Moore has backed his Midlands counterpart Dean Smith to be a "success" at Aston Villa, according to reports from the Express and Star.

The former Brentford boss was appointed as Steve Bruce's successor last week, and the 47-year old will be looking to turn the West Midlands club's fortunes around after just one win in ten league games.

But Moore, whose Baggies side sit second in the Championship table, has tipped his promotion rival to be a real success at Villa Park.

"It's fantastic for Dean - I'm delighted to have him back in the Midlands, I’m sure he’s delighted to be back too", Moore said.

"Dean’s record speaks for itself, he’s a fantastic manager and I’m sure Aston Villa will reap the rewards of his appointment - we wish him really well".

"I remember Dean from my playing days and obviously his time managing at Walsall - we had a real close link with him and Albion with some of our younger players".

"He was always at our games, I know him and Richard really well and I wish them every success", Moore concluded.

Both men were reportedly interviewed for the Baggies manager's job in the summer, but the Albion board rewarded Moore after his efforts in the Premier League last term - which has proved to be an inspired decision with the Baggies losing just one of their last eleven league games.

The Verdict

It's nice to see a manager of a rival team praise his opposite counterpart, and Smith deserves the praise he has received off Moore.

The former Bees boss is expected to deliver for Villa, and deserves his chance at the helm of Villa.
