West Bromwich Albion have slapped a combined £40million price tag on key players Jay Rodriguez and Craig Dawson, according to Sky Sports News.

Burnley offered £15million for Rodriguez earlier in the week, but have since been told that they must pay £20million for the striker, with the same price put on Dawson.

The Clarets also made a combined offer for the duo back in June in the region of £25million according to Sky Sports, which was rejected immediately.

West Ham also had a £12million bid for Dawson turned down too.

As a result of that rejected bid, the 28-year-old handed in a formal transfer request and refused to travel to Portugal with the rest of the squad for a pre-season camp.

Baggies manager Darren Moore has already let a lot of familiar faces leave the Hawthorns this summer with Gareth McAuley, Boaz Myhill and Claudio Yacob being released whilst Ben Foster, Jonny Evans and James McClean have all been sold.

The verdict

This is getting a bit silly from West Brom.

It's understandable that they do not want to sell Dawson and Rodriguez who would both be of massive use in the Championship, but claiming the pair are worth £40million is ludicrous.

What happens if the players refuse to play? Or if West Brom leave it too late to bring in replacements?

They must tread carefully. You can't see a club paying what Albion want and it's a risky strategy for the club to go with at this stage of the window.
