West Brom are hoping to sign Rotherham's Semi Ajayi as Slaven Bilic seeks defensive reinforcements in the summer window.

The Baggies have lost several key players in the past few weeks, with Craig Dawson's departure for Watford leaving the side needing another addition at the back.

And, according to Sun reporter Alan Nixon, Albion have identified Ajayi as a target and will try and bring him in ahead of the new season.

"West Brom. Looking to do a deal for big Semi Ajayi at Rotherham. Shrewd one."

The 25-year-old, who can play in central defence or in defensive midfield, was one of few positives for the Millers as they were relegated from the Championship last season.

He played all 46 games for Paul Warne's side and chipped in with seven league goals, which primarily came because of Ajayi's outstanding aerial ability.

Such form meant that it was always going to be hard for Rotherham to keep hold of the player in the third tier and the Nigerian international had been linked with a move to Norwich earlier this summer.

The Verdict

This would be a smart signing for West Brom as Ajayi was very good last season and would bring a strength and physicality to the team that they currently lack.

He proved over the past 12 months that he is a capable Championship player and his versatility will surely also appeal to Bilic.

Another positive for this deal is that Ajayi has his best years in front of him and could continue to improve as a player.

Given all that, it seems like a no-brainer and it's a move that should suit all parties, with the player surely desperate to get back to this level.
