West Bromwich Albion have made a £17.7m offer for Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues, according to reports emerging from Turkey.

According to Turkish media outlet Aksam, West Brom are ready to smash their record transfer fee to bring Rodrigues to the Hawthorns.

And due to financial restrictions, Galatasaray might be tempted to sell Rodrigues to the Baggies this summer.

West Brom's previous record signing was the £15m arrival of winger Ollie Burke last summer but they are ready to go above this to land Rodrigues.

The 27-year-old is a diminutive winger who has played in a number of countries so far in his career.

Prior to his 2017 move to Galatasaray, the 21-cap Cape Verde international played in Greece with PAOK, Spain with Elche, Bulgaria with Levski Sofia and a number of clubs in Netherlands - the country of his birth - including ADO Den Haag.

Rodrigues played a key role in Galatasaray's Super Lig victory, scoring nine goals and contributing with 10 assists last season.

West Brom are now hoping to unveil Rodrigues as a marquee signing ahead of their Championship campaign.

The Verdict

£17.7m is a very steep price to pay for one player at Championship level and they must be careful to avoid ending up like Aston Villa.

Although they will be armed with parachute payments and any sales of star players, West Brom need to invest this money wisely.

Rodrigues is a talented attacker who is impressing in a decent division but he smashing the transfer record for someone with little Championship experience does not seem like the wisest move.
