West Bromwich Albion are set to make a shock bid for Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray, reports the Birmingham Mail.

The 18-year-old impressed Albion boss Tony Pulis during their FA Cup tie on Saturday with City, which culminated in a 2-1 win for the Premier League side.

The Baggies join a number of top-flight clubs including Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle all vying for the signature of the promising winger, who has been a major influence on Gary Rowett's success as Birmingham manager this season.

Sky Bet Championship side AFC Bournemouth have had four bids rejected for Gray, their latest coming at £3.5 million plus add ons, which again was rejected. Tony Pulis' West Brom could make a bid in excess of that.

Birmingham City board members and manager Gary Rowett stand by the fact that Gray is not for sale, with Rowett saying that he could do nothing to stop a bid of £20 million, but that could be out of reach for Newcastle, West Brom and Bournemouth.

Gary Rowett said to the BBC: "There's lots of interest from lots of clubs. Everyone's after the same type of player.

"It's players like Demarai who clubs are after. Everyone's looking for someone who's a game changer.

"He nearly got us back in the game and might have won it for us. Demarai showed that he can change a game with his impact."

And on whether Gray is unsettled due to speculation, Rowett said:

"If that looked like a player who is disaffected and worried by the speculation, I can't wait to see him when he's settled."

Birmingham City have been revitalised under Gray Rowett, and currently sit in 11th place in the Sky Bet Championship table, having accumulated 36 points this season.
