West Brom are edging closer to completing the signing of Scunthorpe United left back Conor Townsend.

According to respected journalist Pete O'Rourke, the 25-year-old is all set to undergo a medical at the Hawthorns today ahead of his move to the Midlands.

The move will put to an end a summer of speculation surrounding the Iron defender, who was in fine form last season at Glandford Park and had attracted the attention of a host of Championship clubs, with the Baggies now looking like they have won that battle.

Townsend will be delighted to get his crack at the Championship after only establishing himself as a first teamr regular at the beginning of the 16/17 season. Since then though, he has become a mainstay of the team for Scunthorpe, and turned himself into one of the most consistent performers outside of the Championship.

Baggies manager Darren Moore will no doubt be delighted to get the deal over the line after a relatively quiet summer for the club in terms of incomings.

Townsend himself will be hoping to stake a claim for the starting jersey at left back come next Saturday, as he looks to prove he can make the step up in class with ease.
