Steve Bruce will be striving for his West Brom side to improve on last season's 10th-placed finish, following a below-par campaign by the standards they have previously set.

Already confirming the arrival of John Swift, Bruce has stated that the Baggies need five or six new players during the summer transfer window.

One player that the Baggies are currently considering is St Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj, as per a report from Football Insider, who enjoyed an excellent campaign in Bundesliga 2.

The report states that West Brom face competition in their pursuit of the 26-year-old, with Wolves providing higher-level completion, whilst Celtic are also interested in his signature.

Vasilj kept seven clean sheets in 33 Bundesliga 2 outings last season, whilst he is a Bosnia-Herzegovina international, making his debut last year.

The verdict

With Sam Johnstone edging closer to a permanent West Brom exit, the Baggies David Button and Alex Palmer as first-team goalkeeping options, with the pair recently signing contract extensions.

Evidently an area of the pitch that Bruce believes that an improvement is required, Vasilj could prove to be an excellent option.

At The Hawthorns, it is more likely that he would see regular minutes than the other two clubs in pursuit, with Jose Sa and Joe Hart both firmly holding number one spots at Wolves and Celtic respectively.

With Vasilj likely to be available for a cut-price of £1.25 million, this could represent an excellent bit of business for the Baggies, who will be eager to continue improving their playing squad.
