West Bromwich Albion are well placed to continue their assault on the Championship automatic promotion places as they look to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Darren Moore’s men are currently fifth in the second tier and seven points off the top after 21 matches.

And if reports in the Daily Mail are to believed, then the Baggies will be looking to the top flight to help them get back there as they are reportedly interested in bringing Leicester City’s Andy King to the Hawthorns to boost their promotion prospects.

The 30-year-old is due a testimonial at the King Power Stadium but is looking to leave the Midlands club in order facilitate a return to regular first-team football.

King has failed to feature in any league or cup fixture for the Foxes this term and is severely out of favour under Claude Puel.

Last season the midfielder was on loan at former Premier League side Swansea City and could be keen on a move to a Championship, according to the Daily Mail, with Moore after a box-to-box midfielder to aid their chances of promotion.

The verdict

A move for Andy King could be a shrewd shrew bit of business for West Bromwich Albion who are still in the hunt for promotion back to the Premier League.

There is no longer this stigma attached to dropping down to the second tier, and if first-team football is not forthcoming at the King Power, then a move to West Brom who are challenging for a place in next season’s Premier League is the next best thing.

King still has plenty to offer despite being 30-years-old, he could well do a job and be an engine in the middle of the pitch for the Baggies who lack a little energy in the middle third with all their attacking prowess.

I think this would be a pretty solid loan deal until the end of the season for all parties.
