West Bromwich Albion legend Chris Brunt has revealed his surprise as to how good Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana were when first joining the Baggies.
The duo were influential in West Brom’s promotion campaign, and on numerous occasions won a game single-handedly with a moment of real brilliance.
Pereira joined Slaven Bilic’s side on loan from Sporting Lisbon, and with that move now being made permanent, it appears the Brazilian has a bright future ahead at the Hawthorns.
It is unlikely that Diangana will be returning to West Brom for the new campaign as his loan came to an end when the season finished, he now returns to West Ham United, a team that the Baggies will face in the Premier League next season.
Brunt has expressed his astonishment about how good the pair were, and has even revealed a story regarding the first day Pereira trained at the club.
Speaking to The Athletic, Brunt said: “He flicked a ball over my head on the first day in training and I thought, ‘You better not do that again’.
“He and Grady Diangana trained the first couple of days together and we’ve all seen how good Grady can be as well.
“It was an eye-opener, seeing how good they were in little games in training. Then it turned out they were that good on the pitch as well.”

What brilliant signings West Brom made in the summer, and there is no doubt that they made a massive difference in the promotion race.
Pereira has been exceptional all season and is quite easily one of the best players in the division, and it will now be interesting to see how he performs in the Premier League.
Diangana is another who was brilliant throughout the campaign in the Championship, and if West Brom can’t make his move permanent, you have to hope that West Ham start giving him appropriate game time.
