West Brom are looking to finalise a deal for Cardiff's Lee Peltier before the 11pm deadline tonight.

The Baggies are likely to lose Nathan Ferguson to Crystal Palace, despite a knee issue holding up the youngsters move to the Premier League side.

Therefore, bringing in a replacement is the priority for Slaven Bilic before the window and the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (16:36) have confirmed that Peltier is a target.

The 33-year-old has featured in 25 league games for the Bluebirds this season but he has fallen out of favour under Neil Harris in recent weeks, with the ex-Leeds full-back not playing since the derby with Swansea earlier this month.

So, a move could be on the cards and Peltier may welcome the chance to play a part in Albion's promotion push, with Bilic's men currently second in the Championship.

If the deal does go through, Peltier will compete with Darnell Furlong for a place in the XI at right-back but the experienced defender has played across the back four in the past and that versatility will be welcome.

The verdict

This isn't the sort of big-name signing that will excite the fans but it could be a sensible bit of business from the Baggies.

The reality is that if Ferguson does go through, they will need to replace him and the academy graduate was particularly useful because he could operate in both full-back positions.

That's exactly what Peltier can do too and he is someone who knows the league and has won promotion before, which could help the dressing room.

Albion deserve credit for finding a replacement for Ferguson pretty swiftly and they will be ready to act if Ferguson signs for Palace.
