West Bromwich Albion expect star striker Jay Rodriguez to stay with the club until the end of the season despite interest in the striker during the summer, report the Express and Star.

But apparently, they have had nowhere near the same level this month and is now set to stay with the Baggies as they look to win promotion back to the Premier League.

The 29-year-old has scored 13 goals so far this season, forming a brilliant partnership with Dwight Gayle in the West Brom front line.

The pair have scored 27 goals between them already to help Darren Moore's side into a position to fight for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Rodriguez made the move to the Hawthorns in the summer of 2017, signing for around £12million from Southampton and going on to score 24 goals in 69 appearances.

With 27 matches played, the Baggies sit in fourth place, three points behind second-placed Sheffield United and seven behind table-toppers Leeds United.

The verdict

This is obviously good news for West Brom.

It would not be too big a blow losing him in the summer with plenty of time to scout out a replacement but losing him in January would be disastrous.

Having already lost Harvey Barnes back to Leicester City, losing either Rodriguez or Gayle would ruin their season.
