West Brom handed boost in attempts to keep star trio amid major PL interest

West Bromwich Albion’s chances of keeping a trio of key players have been strengthened, according to the latest reports.

According to The Express and Star, Ahmed Hegazi, Salomon Rondon and Nacer Chadli are all more likely to stay at West Brom this summer after their relegation release clauses expired.

West Brom’s relegation to the Championship left them in a vulnerable position with clubs able to activate release clauses on four players.

Jonny Evans has already departed after Leicester City met his £3.5m release clause but the other three have had their release clauses timed out.

Rondon, a target for Newcastle United, had a release clause of £16.5m but that has now expired.

West Brom are only willing to let the 28-year-old leave to join Newcastle if Dwight Gayle comes the other way on loan.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Hegazi’s £10m release clause is also no longer applicable and neither is Nacer Chadli’s £17m clause.

Egypt international Hegazi was wanted by Brighton and Newcastle this summer while Chadli, a World Cup semi-finalist with Belgium, has been linked with Besiktas.

The Verdict

This can only be good news for West Brom and it strengthens their bargaining position.

Rondon will now only leave if they get adequate replacement Gayle in return but if the Venezuela international stays, then he would be a superb physical threat up top for Darren Moore to base his attack around.

And if they stay, Hegazi and Chadli are likely to be among the best players in the division in their relative positions.
