West Brom defender Dara O'Shea is hoping to get a chance to play for Albion in the FA Cup this weekend, as the Baggies prepare to take on Charlton Athletic in the third round.

The 20-year-old has made a couple of appearances for West Brom so far this season - he started in the Carabao Cup against Millwall back in August and came off the bench for the Championship clash with Brentford a couple of weeks ago.

O'Shea has been an forced to watch from the sidelines for the majority of the season though and has been an unused substitute on numerous occasions in the Championship.

The centre-back is hoping to get an opportunity to impress head coach Slaven Bilic this weekend, as the Baggies travel to their Championship rivals Charlton in the third round of the FA Cup.

O'Shea has told the club's official website that he's looking forward to the game at The Valley. He also admitted that even though he's not had as many opportunities in the team as he would have liked this season, it's still been a good experience for him.

He said: “It’s nice when you have a taste of first-team football to have games like this coming up, where you can look forward to hopefully playing. Obviously with the FA Cup being such a prestigious tournament as well it’s great.

O'Shea added: “This season has been different with being on loan last season and getting a taste for it, and then coming back here and being involved but not getting as much game time.

“It’s tough but it’s still a great learning experience being around the players and it’s obviously a higher level than I was last season. It’s great and it’s frustrating!

The Verdict

O'Shea is a good player and after spending most of the season watching from the sidelines, he'll be desperate to get a chance to play against Charlton in the FA Cup tomorrow.

Bilic is likely to rest of his key players for the game, so it'll be interesting to see whether O'Shea gets a chance. If he does get an opportunity to play, he's got to make sure that he takes it.

He had a taste of first-team football while he was out on loan last season, but he's had to be patient this season. It's good that he's be able to learn from the experience though and it shows that he's got the right attitude.
