West Bromwich Albion winger Oliver Burke has opened up about his time at the club so far, admitting that it's been difficult for him.

The 22-year-old joined West Brom from German side RB Leipzig in 2017, but he's really struggled for opportunities in the team so far, making just two starts for the club.

The Scotland international spent time on loan at Celtic last season and was sent out on loan again to Spanish top-flight side Alaves at the beginning of the current campaign, with Albion boss Slaven Bilic wanting him to find regular first-team football.

Burke has made nine appearances for Alaves so far this season, but has mainly been used as a substitute, with seven of his nine La Liga outings coming from the bench.

The forward has now opened up about his spell at West Brom and has admitted that he wants to put himself "in the shop window" - suggesting that he could be open to a move away from the club.

Speaking to BBC Sport at a press conference ahead of Scotland's Euro 2020 qualifier against Cyprus this weekend, Burke opened up about his difficult situation at West Brom.

"The situation at West Brom is obviously very difficult for me right now because I've been there for so long, but then I've not actually played many games for them.

"You almost feel like you're not so much part of that team because I've been to other clubs and been on loan.

"It can be difficult, but the lads are great with me and stuff when I go back.

"I just have to focus on this loan that I'm on now and take it all in and hopefully good things come from me going on loan now and getting game time. Hopefully it puts me in the shop window."

The Verdict

Burke is a good player and he's obviously got a lot of potential, but things just haven't worked out for him since he made the move to West Brom a couple of years ago.

He's really struggled for time on the pitch since he joined Albion and it remains to be seen whether he has a future at the club under Bilic, but as he says, he's just got to make the most of his loan spell in Spain and try to get his career back to track.

He's still got three years left on his contract with the Baggies, so if he can do well in Spain, there's a chance he could force his way back into the team. With that said, his latest comments suggest that he could be open to a permanent move elsewhere too.
