West Brom technical director Luke Dowling has revealed he expects teenage forward Louie Barry to stay with Albion despite top European clubs chasing the player.

Sky had confirmed that Barcelona are interested in the 16-year-old whilst the Express & Star have now claimed that French champions PSG want the teenager as well who has impressed when playing for the England youth sides.

However, the Baggies are prepared to offer the local lad the equivalent of a three-year deal, made up by an initial scholarship for 12 months which then becomes a two-year professional contract when he turns 17.

And, Dowling told the Express & Star that he believes the youngster will snub the European giants to stay in the west Midlands.

"Louie is one of our young players that has got a three year contract offered to him that we’re confident he’s going to sign. The message we’re getting back is he will sign. He’s a local boy."

If Barry did leave, Albion would only be entitled to £235,000 in compensation, which is the standard fee set by FIFA when young players move abroad.

The Verdict

For Dowling to say this suggests that he has been given assurances from the player and his representatives that he will stay as it's a very bold comment otherwise.

So, this is great news for Albion as they will be desperate to keep the youngster as the calibre of the clubs interested proves just how talented Barry is.

You could also argue that it's a wise move from the striker as the prospect of first-team football is obviously much more likely at The Hawthorns.

Either way, he has a decision to make in the coming weeks and it will be interesting to see what does happen.
