West Brom fan pundit identifies his most improved player at the Hawthorns this season

This article is part of Football League World’s ‘The Verdict‘ series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

FLW’s West Brom fan pundit Matt believes there is little competition for who is the most improved player in the side this season.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman has been chosen by the Baggies fan as the player which has impressed him the most relative to last year.

The youngster has played 19 Championship games this season, including 14 starts, in what has been a breakout campaign for the 20-year old.

Matt believes the rest of the squad has been largely unimpressive and has claimed that Garnder-Hickman being such an obvious choice says a lot about the rest of the team’s performances under Valerien Ismael and Steve Bruce.

“It would have to be Gardner-Hickman, just because everyone else in the squad has gone backwards and dipped,” Matt told Football League World.

“One player who has improved is just a damning statement for every player in the squad.”

Ben Foster?

The young midfielder didn’t feature at all in the Premier League last season for the Baggies, but has become an important member of the first team squad in the second division.

West Brom’s season unravelled at the turn of the year, which saw a dip in form that led to Ismael’s dismissal as manager.

Bruce arrived in February but the 61-year old could not turn around the team’s fortunes.

The Hawthorns club failed to qualify for the play-offs and now sit 13th in the table, eight points adrift of the top six with only two games left in the season.

West Brom end the season with games against Reading and Barnsley.

The Verdict

Gardner-Hickman has had an impressive season amid a lot of disappointments at the Hawthorns.

If he can continue to improve at this rate then he will no doubt grow in importance in the team.

Bruce will be hoping that there will be more than one candidate for most improved at the end of next season.

It will be a big summer ahead for the former defender, who will be aiming to bring West Brom back to the Premier League.
