Championship play-off contenders West Brom face a fight on their hands to sign Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn.

The Baggies are interested in signing the Welsh forward, but according to the Scottish Sun, Glasgow giants Rangers are keen on adding the youngster to their squad ahead of next season.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is a big admirer of the youngster, knowing full well about the talent he possesses after seeing Woodburn emerge as a top talent during his time at Anfield previously.

Woodburn spent the early part of this season on loan with Sheffield United, but struggled to make any sort of impact under Chris Wilder as the Blades powered their way towards the top of the Championship table.

Rangers have once again fell short of Celtic this season in terms of a title challenge, but manager Gerrard will be pleased with what he has seen at Ibrox, and will know full well that a few solid additions in the summer could well edge them ever closer to finally reeling their biggest rivals back in.

Woodburn is still well thought of Anfield but will struggle to get game time under Jurgen Klopp with the Reds flying high in the table, meaning a loan spell next term seems the most likely outcome for the teenager.

West Brom on the other hand remain in with a shout of winning promotion to the Premier League, and will more than likely play Aston Villa over two legs in the end of season shootout.

The Verdict

This would make sense for Woodburn and would be a better move to go and play under Gerrard in all honesty.

Woodburn looks like he is a player who needs his arm around him, and Gerrard might be just the man who does that with him.

For West Brom, it might be a risky signing, but sometimes a move can work out and the Baggies might well be a nice landing spot for the youngster.
