West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on loan next season, as per reports from the Athletic.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed an excellent campaign out on loan away from Stamford Bridge, in a season where he has played for both Charlton Athletic and Swansea City.

Gallagher was instrumental for the Addicks, who have since struggled to replace the goalscoring midfielder and have dropped into the relegation zone.

Do you know where these 18 ex-West Brom players are playing now?

Gallagher scored six goals and added four assists for Charlton, before joining play-off chasing Swansea in January where he has since hit the ground running, chipping in with five assists.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea give Gallagher a chance to shine in the first-team next season, or send him out on loan once again in order to further his development.

As per the Athletic, West Bromwich Albion are said to be ‘big admirers’ of Gallagher, and are interested in taking the midfielder on loan next season.

The Baggies will also look to offer Gallagher first-team football if he arrives at the Hawthorns on loan, as Slaven Bilic’s side look to make a timely return to the Premier League.

Albion sit second in the Championship, only one point off league leaders Leeds United.

The Verdict

Gallagher is a wonderful player who has thrived in the Sky Bet Championship this season.

Personally, I don’t think he’s ready to be playing in the Premier League with Chelsea just yet, as the likes of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham both had a few loan spells to gain experience before breaking into the first-team.

Joining a side like West Brom, are likely to be a solid lower-half team in the Premier League, would be a smart addition.
