Benfica attacking midfielder Filip Krovinovic is set to undergo a medical with West Bromwich Albion as his move to the Hawthorns edges closer, according to Football Insider

The Croatian was apparently a top target of the Baggies new boss Slaven Bilic and the report suggests that he is keen on making a fresh start with West Brom under his compatriot.

Krovinovic made the move to the Portuguese giants from Rio Ave back in the summer of 2017 for just over £3million but has failed to nail down a regular spot in the first team.

Last season saw him make just four league appearances taking his total in the Liga NOS to just 17 in two years so it is not hard to see why he may be tempted by a move away.

If he were to arrive the 23-year-old would become the first signing of the Bilic era at West Brom after he took over permanent first-team duties from Darren Moore.

Moore was sacked back in February with the club's automatic promotion hopes fading away and replaced temporarily by Jimmy Shan who led them to a play-off semi-final defeat to Aston Villa.

The verdict

This is is certainly an intriguing signing.

Krovinovic is a player who I know very little about and I expect will arrive as an unknown quantity to most West Brom fans as well, but I think it is a positive move.

He is clearly somebody that Bilic is very keen to bring in and the fact the board are willing to back him must be a positive for what will be a crucial transfer window.

After losing the likes of Harvey Barnes, Dwight Gayle and Stefan Johansen in recent months, nailing down some more permanent attacking menace is a must and Krovinovic indicates a good start to that process.
