West Brom continuing to keep tabs on Leeds United transfer target

West Bromwich Albion are believed to be interested in re-signing Matej Vydra this summer ahead of their return to the Sky Bet Championship.

According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, West Brom are interested in signing Vydra this summer and are continuing to track the Derby County forward.

The same report has highlighted Leeds United’s interest in the forward, but claims that West Brom will be able to offer Vydra a much more lucrative wage if they make their move.

Derby could be open to moving Vydra on this summer as they cut costs, which has put Leeds and West Brom on alert.

Earlier in his career Vydra had a spell with West Brom before his move to Derby.

The 26-year-old spent the 2013/14 campaign on-loan at the Hawthorns, scoring three goals in 23 Premier League appearances for the Baggies.

Since then, the forward has continued to shine in the second-tier of English football, spearheading Derby’s push for promotion last season.

Vydra scored 21 Championship goals last season and registered a further four assists, helping to guide Derby to sixth in the Championship table.

However, failure to secure promotion to the Premier League could lead to Derby cashing in on the forward.

The Verdict

Leeds have other targets, but are interested in Vydra, which might be a good thing, particularly if West Brom act on their initial interest.

The parachute payments West Brom have available to them mean that they can offer a much more lucrative package to the prolific striker.

Whoever makes a move for Vydra is going to have to pay for it, with Derby in a good position, particularly after the 26-year-old’s prolific year in front of goal.

Where will Vydra end up playing his football next season? Let us know your thoughts!
