West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer this summer, according to the Athletic.
The Baggies are preparing to embark on life back in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League this season.
It remains to be seen who takes charge following Sam Allardyce’s departure, but whoever takes the reins will be keen to strengthen their squad, and particularly their midfield.
West Brom quiz: Does The Hawthorns have a higher or lower capacity than these 18 grounds?
Okay Yokuslu has returned to Celta Vigo after his loan spell at the Hawthorns, so there is scope to replace the Turkish midfielder in the transfer window.
According to the Athletic, Albion have identified Coventry’s Gustavo Hamer as a potential replacement for Yokuslu, after an impressive first season in English football.
Hamer joined Coventry from PEC Zwolle last summer, and the midfielder established himself as a key cog in the Sky Blues’ midfield.
The 23-year-old made 42 appearances in the Championship this season, scoring five goals and adding three assists from midfield.
Hamer would be an excellent addition for the Baggies.
The 23-year-old adds so much in the middle of the park. Tenacity, energy, and a range of passing.
He keeps things ticking over so nicely in midfield, but he also offers plenty of grit and defensive steel too.
Alongside someone like Romaine Sawyers, Hamer could thrive. You look at Albion’s current midfield, and it needs to be strengthened.
If they can strengthen that, and keep hold of the likes of Karlan Grant and Callum Robinson, then the Baggies could be up there next season.
