West Bromwich Albion have Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Danny Batth on their radar this summer, according to The Mirror’s Live Transfer Blog [Monday 2nd July, 13:31].
Batth is a target for West Brom this summer as they could be searching for new centre-halves.
Jonny Evans has already left the club to join Leicester City and he could be followed out the door by two other centre-backs.
As a result, West Brom have targeted a move for Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley – who is also interesting Leeds United – and now they might move for Batth.
Wolves rate the 6ft 3in central defender at £4m after winning promotion to the Premier League with him as captain.
But the 27-year-old played 16 games and is not the first choice option at Wolves, so he may favour a switch across the West Midlands to West Brom.
The Wolves academy product has been at Molineux for his whole career – aside from three loan stints – playing over 200 games in black and gold.
But now West Brom are hoping to prise him away to lead their promotion charge.
West Brom’s defence would definitely benefit from having a Batth and Bartley combination.
Bartley must be their top choice this summer but if Dawson and Hegazi leave, some of that money could be reinvested in signing Batth.
He is tall, dominant in the air and experienced at Championship level. Plus, he is now entering the prime of his career and could be a decent long-term investment.
