West Bromwich Albion have signed Sam Johnstone from Manchester United, the club's official website has confirmed.

Johnstone pens a four-year deal with West Brom after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Man United.

West Brom move swiftly to replace Ben Foster, who is expected to complete a move to Watford soon.

Johnstone has returned to the West Midlands, where he has been with Aston Villa for the last 18 months on loan.

During his spell at Villa Park, the former England under-21 international has been very impressive, helping his side reach the play-off final last term.

But with Aston Villa failing to finance a permanent swoop for Johnstone, West Brom have wrapped this up instead.

The Baggies have confirmed the arrival of the 25-year-old, which has sparked a goalkeeper merry-go-round with Lee Grant heading to Manchester United to replace Johnstone as the third choice.

The Verdict

Johnstone is an excellent signing for West Brom and they have done very well to bring him in.

I am surprised that no Premier League clubs wanted to beat West Brom to this signing following Johnstone's impressive year and a half stint as one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship.

He is 10 years younger than Foster, so they have sorted a long-term replacement for the veteran stopper.
