West Brom have completed the signing of Brentford's Romaine Sawyers, with the midfielder signing an initial three-year deal at The Hawthorns.

It takes the 27-year-old back to where it all began for him as a professional footballer as he came through the ranks at Albion before leaving for Walsall in 2013. A transfer to Brentford followed and Sawyers has established himself as a top midfielder in the Championship over the years.

And, Albion announced his arrival on their official site this morning, revealing the playmaker has joined for an undisclosed fee and the player explained just how pleased he was to return to the club and made it clear returning to the Premier League is the aim.

"This is the first team that I have always wanted to play for and I’m delighted I’m now going to get that chance. I left the club when I was just a boy with a lot of potential. But I am coming back as a man who has matured as a player.

"It looks to me that we are assembling a strong group of players and I hope to add to that. The aim is promotion - that’s what we all want especially after just missing out last season."

The Verdict

This is a fantastic signing for West Brom as they needed to bring in better technical players in the middle of the park and Sawyers will add a lot to the team.

He is capable on the ball and will help Albion dictate possession and the forwards in the side will benefit from his inclusion in the side.

There was a lot of interest in Sawyers so this is a real coup for the Baggies and it's a good move for the player who is returning home.

Now, he has a week to get to know his new teammates and he will surely hope to be involved from the start against Nottingham Forest for the opener.
