West Brom confirm arrival of experienced defender

West Brom have sealed a late transfer for Lee Peltier, with the experienced defender joining until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has been with Cardiff City and had featured in 25 games this season but he struggled to establish himself as regular under Neil Harris.

Therefore, they have been happy to sanction a move for the player and Albion confirmed on their official Twitter that they had signed Peltier on a short-term deal.

The experienced defender will provide boss Slaven Bilic with a reliable option at the back and he will most likely be cover to Darnell Furlong at right-back.

However, his versatility will appeal, with Peltier having played at centre-back and left-back at different stages in his career.

Whilst there has been no official confirmation yet, this suggests that Nathan Ferguson’s protracted move to Crystal Palace is going to go through, with Peltier seen as a replacement for the academy graduate.

Peltier won’t be eligible to make his Baggies bow against Luton tomorrow but he could be involved against Millwall next week.

The verdict

Even though this won’t be a signing that attracts a lot of attention, it’s a sensible bit of business from Albion.

Bilic has brought in someone who is experienced, can play in a few positions and importantly knows what it’s like to win promotion from this league.

The club deserve credit for acting swiftly after Ferguson’s expected departure and Peltier will fill the gap until the summer.

So, it’s a move that suits all parties and it’s now down to the defender to impress in training as he looks to force his way into the Albion XI.
