West Brom have made significant progress with Kyle Edwards as they look to tie down the winger to a new long-term contract to remain at The Hawthorns.

The 21-year-old has featured in 22 Championship fixtures this season and whilst many of his appearances have come from the bench, Edwards has played his part in helping Albion to the top of the league.

Therefore, with the youngsters current deal up in the summer, the Baggies have been keen to reach a new agreement and The Athletic have revealed that a deal is close.

They claim that the player is expected to sign a contract that will see his wages increase significantly from around £1,000 a week to over £10,000.

That is to reflect his status as an important member of Slaven Bilic's squad and it comes on the back of a very impressive performance from the wide man in the FA Cup success at West Ham over the weekend.

Edwards is the latest highly-rated talent to emerge from West Brom's academy, with fellow graduate Nathan Ferguson in a similar position to his teammate as he approaches the final few months of his contract.

The verdict

This is finally some good news for West Brom on the contract front as it seems talks have stalled with several exciting players over the past few months.

Everyone can see the quality that Edwards has and you would have to say that he deserves this new deal because he is making big contributions this season.

And, you have to remember he is still very young and he could go on to be a key player at The Hawthorns in the years to come.

Once this has been finalised it will be a relief for the player and the challenge will then be to kick on and make sure he continues to improve.
