Josef de Souza is a summer target for West Brom as they prepare for the Championship.

According to A Spor, the Baggies have put in a €12 million bid for the Brazilian midfielder. The 29-year-old plays for Turkish side Fenerbahce who recently finished second in the league last season.

He only has one year remaining on his contract, so they could be convinced to sell him, with English football likely to be an attractive option for the defensive midfielder. Wolves have also been linked with him as they aim to start strongly in the Premier League.

He scored three goals and provided two assists in the league last season, but his defensive work is his main asset. However, a move away would see him miss out on playing Champions League football next season, so this is an important decision for his career.

The Verdict

De Souza would bolster them in a key area because Grzegorz Krychowiak has returned to PSG after being on loan to West Brom, so they need a replacement for him. Claudio Yacob and James Morrison have left as free agents while Jake Livermore could be sold. This leaves 37-year-old Gareth Barry as the main option, so new personnel are desperately needed.

He adapted well to the Turkish league after spending the majority of his career in Brazil, so he should be able to do the same again because the Championship is slightly lower in terms of overall standard of quality.
