Chris Willock is likely to leave West Brom in January as parent club Benfica look to sort him another move that will see the youngster get more game time.

The 21-year-old arrived at The Hawthorns on a season-long loan during the summer but he has failed to make an impact on Slaven Bilic's side and their promotion push.

Willock has yet to feature for Albion in the league and the only time he has made the matchday squad was for the League Cup defeat at home to Millwall, where he failed to come off the bench.

So, it's perhaps no surprise to see the Telegraph claim that the Lisbon outfit want to find the versatile attacker another club in the New Year, although they do suggest he could stay in the Championship.

The former Arsenal man has only played for the Baggies U23 side this season and whilst he has scored a few goals and impressed on occasions, he is way down the pecking order for Bilic, with the likes of Grady Diangana, Matheus Pereira and Matt Phillips all preferred.

And, he can have few complaints on that front, as Albion currently top the Championship as we approach the halfway mark.

The verdict

You have to say that this loan spell isn't going the way that West Brom, Willock or Benfica would have wanted.

By now, the player would have hoped to have forced his way into the squad and getting some minutes but it's not happening and it's not likely to change given how Albion are playing.

So, triggering the clause to bring him back in January makes sense and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
