West Brom have today confirmed that three long-serving players will leave The Hawthorns now that their contracts are up.

Goalkeeper Boaz Myhill, centre-back Gareth McAuley and midfielder Claudio Yacob were all unsure what their futures held as Albion delayed making a decision on any new deals.

However, the club announced on their website today that they would be releasing the trio who had been at the club for a combined total of 21 years.

In total, Northern Ireland international McAuley played 227 games, Yacob featured in 175 games whilst Myhill played 82 times in eight years.

Despite deciding to let the players go, Baggies boss Darren Moore was full of praise for the impact they'd had at the club over the years.

"I would like to personally thank all three players for their loyal service to this football club and I wish them well in their respective futures."

"They have been absolute stalwarts of this club and they should all be proud of their time here. It was a very difficult decision not to offer each of them a new contract and I did not take that decision lightly."

The Verdict

This will have been a tough decision for Moore because, as you can see, these are three players who have made big contributions to West Brom over the years.

However, this summer could signal a new approach for the Baggies and it's udnerstandable that they have decided not to renew considering the age of these players.

Now, it's about replacing these players and building a squad that can compete for automatic promotion.
