West Brom have announced that young defender Kane Wilson has left the club to join League Two side Exeter on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 18-year-old is highly-rated at The Hawthorns but he is way down the pecking order at the moment so has had to go out loan for regular football.
He spent the first-half of the campaign on loan with Walsall but struggled to establish himself in the side, although he did make 20 appearances in all competitions.
But, he returned to Albion this month and the Baggies confirmed on their official site earlier today that he has joined the Grecians.
It will be Wilson’s second spell with the club as he spent last season on loan at St James’ Park, helping the club to a fourth place finish.
Ultimately though, the season ended in disappointment, with Exeter losing the play-off final against Coventry at Wembley, with Wilson an unused substitute on the day.
Promotion will be the aim again this season and the teenager will be linking up with Matt Taylor’s side sitting in eighth position – but just three points behind the automatic places.
This seems like a good move for all parties and should help Wilson’s development as a player.
He knows the club well and will be given an opportunity to play, which isn’t going to happen at The Hawthorns and wasn’t happening enough with Walsall.
Now, it’s down to the youngster to show what he can do and make a positive impact with his new club.
