West Brom are set to do battle with former manager Tony Pulis in their pursuit of their latest striker target, according to the Daily Mirror (20/07/18, 20.18pm)

The duo are joined by Steve McClaren's Queens Park Rangers in their desire for the services of 28-year old Icelandic striker Vidar Orn Kjartansson, currently playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv.

He scored 12 goals in 27 top flight games for Tel Aviv last season, with a further four coming in the Europa League. Formerly of Malmo, the 6ft 1in star failed to make Iceland's World Cup squad, despite his impressive scoring record.

QPR boss McClaren worked with Kjartansson whilst at Tel Aviv and understands exactly what he is capable of, but the Mirror's report suggests he's likely to be priced out of a move either WBA or Boro press the issue.

Kjartansson has scored 42 goals in 71 games during his successful stay in Israel and despite missing out on the World Cup, he's represented Iceland on 18 occasions, scoring twice. The most recent international goal came in November 2017 as he put them 1-0 up against Qatar in a game they eventually drew 1-1.

The Verdict

With 186 goals from 351 senior games, Kjartansson certainly looks to have plenty of potential. He's reaching his peak now at 28-years old and if he's going to break into one of Europe's leading divisions, then it will be crucial to do it soon.

On paper there's plenty to like, he's strong and clinical with experience of European and International football, with both Boro and WBA likely to be able to afford the asking price too.
